There are a few different types of proteins available on the market. The different types of proteins are milk based, plant based, rice based, soy based, egg based, and even beef based. Whey Concentrate vs. Whey Isolate

Whey protein is derived from dairy and is separated during the cheese making process. The main difference between the two is the final protein content. Whey concentrate is the most common type of protein and is easier on the wallet. When the liquid whey is separated, certain steps are carried out to reach a protein concentration percent of 80. Whey concentrate is 80% protein and 20% fat, carbohydrates, and lactose. This form of protein contains more calories than whey isolate.

Whey isolate goes through a similar initial process as whey concentrate except the percent of protein is 90. It is then filtered further than whey concentrate to filter out additional lactose, fat, and other impurities.

Which one Should I Take?

If you have issues with lactose intolerance, whey concentrate may be the way to go. If you are working on weight loss, isolate may be the better way to go. It takes a greater amount of whey concentrate protein powder to get 25 grams of protein versus the amount of isolate protein powder needed for 25 grams of protein. Since whey concentrate has a higher fat, carbohydrate, and sugar percentage, it will have a higher calorie count.

Benefits of Whey Isolate and Whey Concentrate

Both actually have similar benefits. Both offer the benefit of gaining lean muscle mass and amino acid benefits. Due to the high protein percentages in both, you can expect to see the same benefits. Just keep in mind, you will need a greater amount of whey concentrate powder to match whey isolate gram for gram.
